What is Leadership Greenville and why are they raising money to build a trail around Tanglewood Middle School?
The Trail Project
Video by: Chris Buol
Tanglewood Middle School’s trail project was one of the three projects selected this year. Our team is currently raising $80,000+ to build a walking/jogging/biking trail around a school that has been overlooked by city funding and has been left with nowhere to go. This trail will not only serve the students of Tanglewood Middle, but the entire community as well.
The rural school campus beautifully lends itself to the creation of a full loop around our school, which would equate to a 3/4 of a mile of distance. Part of the loop is already paved, and an ideal start to our project.
This trail will provide not just access to a wonderful and safe new outdoor space for our students and clubs, but a mindful and literacy-driven activity for all, and equity in access to healthy living and recreation opportunities for our community.
About Leadership Greenville
Leadership Greenville is Greenville’s Chamber of Commerce flagship leadership program. The program is designed to help develop informed, committed and qualified leaders for Greenville County. By taking an intensive look into the issues affecting Greenville County, Leadership Greenville prepares and motivates participants to provide quality, dynamic leadership within the area. Since the program began in 1973, there have been over 2000 participants. This is the 46th class of the leadership program.
Each year, new classes embark on a journey to understand the inner-workings of our area, including Managed Growth and the Economy, Quality of Life, Human Services, Local Government, Justice, Education and State Government. The individual classes select projects to meet a need in the area. Class Projects are chosen based on proposals submitted by class members, as well as nonprofit Chamber-Investor organizations.
